Bayern Chemie Team honoured with MBDA 3-Star Innovation Award
 The
Meteor Team from BayernChemie was honoured in an MBDA presentation in
La Spezia, Italy honoured with the most important MBDA Award for Innovations
The council of MBDA awarded to the Bayern-Chemie Meteor Team the “MBDA
3-Star Innovation Award” for development, industrialization and
successful flight demonstration for their advanced developed missile propulsion
system, the integrated controlled ducted rocket motor (Demonstration of
a Highly Efficient Ram Jet Propulsion System in Flight).
The propulsion system consists of a booster for the launch acceleration,
a gas generator together with an intelligent control valve and air intakes
for the sustain phase. With this propulsion technology the Meteor missile
system achieves more than double the kinematic performance in comparison
with other modern standard missiles.
Decisive in the selection for the award was the outstanding technological
innovation and its translation into an industrialized application. MBDA
is making full use of this advanced technology within its Meteor Missile
System, which is providing air dominance capability to the flying platforms
Eurofighter, Saab Gripen and Rafale. The improvement of the air dominance
is of great importance for today’s flight scenario’s. This
capability enhancement is also an important decision criteria for purchasing
combat aircraft and will thus improve the potential for future export
sales.
The ram jet propulsion technology may also be used in the near future
for other applications ( q.e. air to ground and air defence).
This MBDA 3-star Award is the 2nd decoration for the Bayern-Chemie Meteor
Team. The outstanding performance of the Bayern-Chemie colleagues was
previously recognised by the award in March 2008 of the LFK-Technology
prize.
