Multi Pulse Propulsion

Double-Pulse Motor

The double-pulse propulsion technology is available at BAYERN-CHEMIE / PROTAC for use in a variety of applications. The double-pulse motor is a key element of the German air-defence missile LFK-NG and has been very successfully demonstrated by two flight tests in 2005 and 2006.

Application

  Anti-aircraft and missile defence

Medium range air-to-air, ground to air

Performance Characteristics

  No signature during coast-phase

Active motor impulse control on mission demand

  Increased kinematic performance in endgame

  Avoiding of high peak velocities

  Increased range especially against highly
   manoeuvering targets

Technology

Separate propellant grains for two pulses in
    one motor case

Pulse separation by active or passive frangible bulkhead

  Separate igniter systems

Next Step

  Double-pulse demonstrator for high performance/hyper-
    velocity applications
